Congregational Announcements
For more information about men’s ministry and their upcoming study, meet at the front of the sanctuary immediately after the service.
School Kits: Our congregation collected 80 school kits. In addition the Mennonite Women Sewing group purchased 170 kits. Thanks to this congregation 250 kits were delivered to Material Resource Center this week. Pray for the children that will use these school supplies.
Hempfield After School Bible Club: Will you assist a team leading the Bible club in the Hempfield School District? We need 6-7 people for the 1 ½ hr. after school club: once a week for seven weeks in the fall and again in the spring. Team members will provide snacks; lead the Bible story and discussion; coordinate prayer support and congregation updates, etc. Please contact Dan Burkhart.
Health Care in America: If you are interested in learning more about the current health care delivery system and how that could change in light of current legislative actions, listen in to a nationally broadcast discussion among Mennonite theologians, a legal expert, and other persons who have thought deeply about the subject. Come to the Connections room at 8:00 PM on September 8 to listen in on this one hour discussion. Questions? Contact George Stoltzfus or Rohrer Eshelman, through whom you may also send questions to the national panel and listen in for their response.
Fall Evening Bible Studies Starting September 9
- Women’s Bible Study: We’re excited to announce that the women’s Bible study will be starting on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Our 10-week study is titled, “Believing God” by Beth Moore. Please contact Julia Fisher if you have any questions. There will be a sign-up sheet in the lobby on Sunday.
- Men’s Bible Study: All men 16 years and older are invited to participate in our “Quest for Authentic Manhood.” This study will challenge our culturally held views of men and assist men toward greater faithfulness. Men will meet for six sessions, the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Please see Steve Horst, Randall Shull, Jonathan Bowman, Chris Wenden, or Fred Miller if you have questions.
- Childcare will be provided. An offering will be taken to assist with cost.
Caring ministries at Landisville: As the Health & Wholeness Team comes to an end on August 31, we want you to know that the caring ministries of the church will continue. Some of the “arms” of H&W such as the Sunday School Liaisons and blood pressure checks will continue to assist with meeting the caring needs within the congregation. Also, pastoral concerns can be shared with me (pastor Julia) and other members of the Pastoral Staff and Ministry Team. We are excited by the new possibilities for mutual care within the congregation that are being formed. I and the other task force members will be eager to hear your ideas as to how our ministry of caring within the congregation may be shaped in the future. Judy Yoder, as you heard on Sunday, will finish her role as Director of H&W at the end of August, but she will continue on through the end of the year in an advisory capacity during this time of transition. -Pastor Julia Fisher, Associate Pastor of Pastoral Care
Support & Discovery, a support and bible study group for people without children, will be starting a new bible study on Wednesday, September 16th, at 7pm. The focus will be on Building Better Relationships by Susan Nikaido. If you have any questions, please contact Kristin Wolgemuth.
Congratulations:
- Alicia Hertzler and Zachary Hurst were married at Landisville Mennonite on August 15.
- Ben Yoder and Anita Hooley were married August 15 at Pleasant View Mennonite Church, North Lawrence, OH.
Camp Hebron is grateful for the support of the Landisville congregation. Over 50 years ago your members partnered with us to build the Whipporwill Cabin. Recently some of your members provided the resources and labor to update and renovate this cabin. Whipporwill is in constant use by summer youth campers and year round retreat guests. Your partnership is vital to our ministry of connecting people to God, nature and each other. We are grateful for your faithful support and we look forward to serving together in the future.
–Lanny Millette, Executive Director
A funeral service was here on Friday for Lydia Stonesifer who died August 25. We extend our sympathy to Lydia’s family and friends.
